Introducing an Acorn Fall Theme Your Toddlers Will Love
I can’t wait to share my Acorn Fall Theme with you! Fall has officially started, the leaves are changing and I am loving the cooler mornings. I enjoy all my fall themes, but my acorn fall theme has got to my favorite. You can do so many different toddler activities with acorns. Let me share with you my favorite ones!
This picture is me prepping for my Acorn week! In my toddler classroom, my youngest toddler is currently 18 months and my oldest toddler just turned 3 years old. Most of these activities are completed by all my students except my letter activities. I only do letter introductions with my older toddlers. This week I will also be introducing the letter A to my older toddler students.
Acorn Math Toddler Activity Printable
Early math exposure is critical in a toddler classroom. Math is all around us and it is very important for early education teachers to teach problem-solving and logical thinking. I found this article so helpful in laying out all the benefits of dedicating instructional time in your classroom to math skills.
The acorn math skills my toddlers worked on this week were the shape oval, counting, and number recognition. You can grab your own Acorn Math toddler activity printable here.
Feed the Squirrels
This fun Feed the Squirrels shape matching game soon became a classroom favorite. The children laid the squirrel shape cards out on the floor and matched the acorn shape card to each corresponding squirrel card. They pretended to feed the squirrels the acorns as they completed this activity.
Oval Worksheet
Dot the ovals! If you work with toddlers, you need to purchase some dot markers! My toddlers love to use dot markers during table time. For this Oval Worksheet, we walked around the classroom looking for the shape oval. We collected the oval items and placed them on the table. Next, each student got a dot marker and an oval worksheet. They placed as many dots as they wanted on each oval found on the page.
Little Acorns Count and Match
This third activity Little Acorns Count and Match, was a counting a number recognition math activity. Using three acorns from Learning Resources Alphabet Acorns we counted as a group to number three. I then worked individually with each child as they completed the acorn cut and paste worksheet.
Acorn Craft For Preschool and Toddlers
I have the cutest acorn craft for preschool to share with you. This handprint acorn craft turns out so cute and your students and their families will love them! If you are looking for cute poems about acorns, the message on this handprint acorn craft is a perfect reminder that we are teaching the next generation of greatness. To complete this acorn craft for preschool, I first print a handprint acorn poem and paint each child’s hand with brown paint. They stamp their handprint onto the printable fingers pointing toward the poem. Once dry they glue an acorn top to the top of the handprint. I just love how this acorn craft for preschool turns out! They also look adorable on fall themed bulletin boards.
Acorn Games
Gathering Acorns
This week we did many fun acorn games. One of my favorite acorn games I play during my acorn week is gathering acorns. In the story Squirell’s Busy Day, Squirrel is having a hard time carrying his heavy wagon full of acorns. He takes a fall and the acorns go all over the place. He is upset until his friends come and help him pick them up. After reading the cute story I will pretend to “fall” and drop alphabet acorns all over our classroom. The kids get a kick out of this and then they all help me pick them up. Such a simple, fun activity that your toddlers will love!!
Acorn Soup Game
This acorn soup game was a new item I purchased this school year. The kids loved it! Acorn Soup Game, made by the Peaceable Kingdom, is a perfect table activity for little ones. The game comes with an assortment of different recipe cards. The children count the correct number of items into the pot to make each fall soup.
Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game
The Sneaky Snacky Squirrel Game is another classroom favorite. In this game, children work to be the first to fill up their logs with acorns. It’s a great fine motor activity as they have to use the squirrel tweezers to pick up the acorns from the tree. They also work on color identification and counting skills. This game is perfect for early risers from naptime. It’s a quiet game, so I can have it set up on the floor and early risers can quietly play the game as they wait for their friends to wake up from naptime.
Fall Themed Bulletin Boards
Looking for fall themed bulletin boards for your classroom this fall? Acorn Bulletin Board ideas are perfect to add a little classroom decor to your acorn week. I think the squirrel clipart in this one is just too cute. The acorns are editable, so you can type your students’ names onto each one. I also include a couple of different sayings for fall themed bulletin boards. If you have a preschool class or an elementary level class, I have an acorn saying that will work for your classroom also. Check it out here!
Acorn Books
Here are my 6 of my favorite Acorn books for little readers. I have books all over my classroom. Out of all the activities I do with my students in my classroom, reading to them is by far the most important. Reading to toddlers increases their vocabulary, language development, listening skills and so much more!

If you’ve been wanting to check out my alphabet letter packets, this would be a great one to start with. We had a lot of fun completing the A is for Acorn activities along with my little acorns theme.

Hi, I was curious, how do you set up your curriculum monthly binders? I have been laminating and filing everything but getting tired of laminating that much. I know you mentioned somewhere that you use notebooks.
I have been using your curriculum since September and love it.
